Pierre Poilievre Visits Richmond Hill, Pledges Safer Communities and Lower Taxes

Richmond Hill, ON — September 27, 2025—Shaoren Gou, World Chinese Media —The Leader of the Official Opposition, Pierre Poilievre, brought his message of safer streets, lower taxes, and stronger communities to Richmond Hill on Saturday morning during a gathering at the YM Art Gallery. The event, held from 11:25 a.m. to 12:25 p.m., drew local supporters, Conservative candidates, and community members who came to hear Canada’s Conservative leader outline his priorities for the country.

The event opened with remarks from Vincent Neil Ho, newly elected Member of Parliament for Richmond Hill South. Ho introduced Poilievre as “the next Prime Minister of Canada,” praising his vision of a Canada where “workers can work and builders can build.” He emphasized Poilievre’s focus on an immigration system that supports good-paying jobs, affordable housing, and safe neighborhoods.

Taking the stage, Poilievre thanked Ho for his introduction and highlighted the MP’s personal commitment to public service, noting Ho had welcomed a newborn child just two days after winning his seat.

In his speech, Poilievre touched on a broad range of issues, drawing sharp contrasts with Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s Liberal government. He denounced what he described as “reckless policies” that, in his view, have fueled crime, drugs, and weakened public safety. Referring to a recent shooting in the community, he pledged to “bring in tough laws that lock up the criminals, throw away the keys, and keep Richmond Hill and all of Canada safe.”

He promised a crackdown on fentanyl trafficking, including life sentences for those who sell the deadly drug, and vowed to end supervised injection sites, saying Conservatives would fight for “drug-free neighborhoods where children can play safely in parks.”

On the economy, Poilievre pledged to cut taxes on work, investment, and homebuilding, arguing that Canadians deserve stronger purchasing power and affordable housing. He also called for unlocking Canada’s natural resources — from oil and gas to nuclear power — to create jobs and restore economic self-reliance.

Immigration featured prominently in his speech as well. Poilievre advocated for “lawful immigration pathways” such as the Hong Kong program, while criticizing what he described as fraudulent refugee claims and illegal border crossings. He credited immigrant families, including those of Vincent Ho and fellow Conservative candidates in attendance, with helping to build Canada through hard work and entrepreneurship.

Local resident Arshia Hazradi, who has lived in Richmond Hill for more than two decades, expressed support for Poilievre’s leadership. “Seeing Pierre Poilievre is a pleasure,” Hazradi said. “He looks after the hardworking people of Canada and really connects with the younger generation. It means a lot to see him working closely with Vincent Ho for our community.”

Background on Pierre Poilievre

Pierre Poilievre, 46, is the Leader of the Conservative Party of Canada and the Leader of the Official Opposition. First elected to Parliament in 2004 at the age of 25, he has represented the Ottawa-area riding of Carleton (formerly Nepean—Carleton) for over 20 years. Known for his sharp debating style and strong advocacy for fiscal conservatism, Poilievre became leader of the Conservative Party in September 2022 after a decisive leadership race victory.

Born in Calgary and adopted by two schoolteachers, Poilievre grew up in Alberta before entering politics. He is married to Anaida Poilievre, and the couple have two young children, Valentina and Cruz. Throughout his political career, he has built a reputation as a critic of high taxes, government red tape, and what he views as Liberal mismanagement of the economy.
