Hainan Su Studies Association Visits Hainan Yuxuan Bozhan Artwork Co., Ltd.
Haikou, Hainan, China, October 13, 2024 – Shaoren Gou, International Arts News –Li Gongyu, Chairman of the Hainan Su Studies Association, along with Vice Chairman Chen Jingyuan, and Secretary General Qin Jiming, visited Hainan Yuxuan Bozhan Artwork Co., Ltd. today, located on the fourth floor of the Lepusheng Commercial Building in Haikou City, Hainan island.
The delegation toured a collection museum established by 81-year-old collector Xing Yumin, which boasts over 30,000 items. These collections span a historical timeline from Hongshan Culture through the Xia, Shang, Zhou, and Chunqiu periods, culminating in the establishment of New China. The diverse displays vividly illustrate the richness of Chinese cultural history.
During the visit, the Hainan Su Studies Association explored specific collections related to Su Shi, collected by Xing Yumin, and expressed anticipation for future visits from experts and scholars for exchange and appraisal.
Founded on September 1, 2018, the Hainan Su Studies Association is the first professional academic organization in China dedicated to the systematic study of Su Studies. The term “Three Su” refers to the renowned Northern Song Dynasty writers Su Xun, Su Shi, and Su Zhe.
The association emphasizes that the rich traditional culture, patriotism, national spirit, moral values, and familial traditions encapsulated in “Su Studies” are vital to China’s cultural heritage and core values. Comprehensive research on “Su Studies” aims to expand and enrich the cultural discourse surrounding the “Three Su,” making it a crucial aspect of promoting and preserving China’s traditional culture in the new era, with significant social value.
The association envisions “Su Studies” as a distinctive cultural landmark for Hainan. It plans to develop high-standard cultural infrastructure, promote international-level research and tourism experiences centered around “Su Studies,” and create new cultural tourism hotspots. This initiative aims to enhance tourism offerings, establishing Hainan as an international destination characterized by its rich cultural heritage and convenient tourism experiences.
Since its inception, the Hainan Province Su Studies Association has actively engaged in international cultural exchanges, organized academic forums and conferences, and published the academic journal “Su Studies” along with various collections and monographs. The field has garnered attention from the international academic community, with notable mentions in works such as the Cambridge History of Chinese Literature and the Columbia History of Chinese Literature. Scholars like Alice W. Cheang, Kathleen M. Tomlonovic, and Stanley Ginsberg have contributed significant research on Su Shi, highlighting the global interest in this pivotal figure.
