Haikou, Hainan, China, January 19, 2025–Dr. Shaoren Gou, Canada & World Report – The Hainan Agarwood Industry United Association and the World Federation of Chinese Medicine Societies’ Agarwood Industry Subcommittee held a significant event today, marking the First Session of the Third Council and the Second Session of the Fourth Council. The meetings took place at the Haikou Junhua Haiyi Hotel, attended by over 200 leaders, experts, and business representatives from the agarwood industry. The event, conducted both online and offline, highlighted past achievements and laid out ambitious plans for the future of the industry.
Strengthening Industry Collaboration
The event was chaired by Li Xi, President of the Hainan Agarwood Industry United Association, who kicked off the proceedings by introducing key attendees and council members. A key moment in the meeting was the collective review of the Central Economic Work Conference’s guiding principles, setting the stage for strategic discussions.
Li Xi presented the 2024 Work Summary and 2025 Work Plan, reflecting on the past year’s achievements in advancing the agarwood industry, supporting rural revitalization, and establishing closer connections with policy frameworks. The work plan for 2025 aims to build on these successes, focusing on expanding industry influence and further integrating policy support.
During the meeting, Zhou Jianhui, Supervisor General, delivered the 2024 Supervisory Work Report, and Li Yun, Secretary-General, provided a financial update for the year. The council also reviewed and approved the appointment of new vice presidents, directors, and advisors, while honoring outstanding individuals and organizations for their efforts during the 2024 typhoon response.
Keynote Addresses Highlighting the Industry’s Potential
In a powerful speech, Wang Keyuan, Vice President of both the Hainan Agarwood Industry United Association and the Agarwood Industry Subcommittee, emphasized that 2024 had been a pivotal year for the sector. He praised the leadership of Li Xi, particularly in talent cultivation, industry expansion, and policy alignment.
Wang underscored the importance of agarwood’s medicinal and health benefits, stressing that research into its medicinal value should be a top priority in 2025. He also called for enhanced efforts in spreading agarwood culture, urging the use of short videos and academic forums to engage broader audiences and promote its benefits.
Furthermore, Wang proposed the creation of an “Agarwood Hundred-Platform”, a collaborative initiative between the Hainan Agarwood Industry United Association and the World Federation of Chinese Medicine Societies. This platform would serve as a hub for global industry exchange and R&D, advancing agarwood product standards and unifying geographical indications.
Global Impact: Wang Shoudong’s Groundbreaking Achievement
In a remarkable display of international recognition, Wang Shoudong, President of the Agarwood Industry Subcommittee and Chief Advisor of the Hainan Agarwood Industry United Association, highlighted his groundbreaking journey as the first Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) practitioner to reach the South Pole. On November 29, 2024, at 8:29 PM, Wang arrived at the South Pole as part of a mission to promote TCM. There, he conducted health consultations for scientists, explorers, and polar pilots, using agarwood-based acupuncture and moxibustion techniques to alleviate the physical strain of extreme conditions. His efforts were warmly received and marked the first time TCM had been introduced at such a remote location.
